Product Overview
The Data Center Rack-Mounted Cooling Unit (CDU) is a compact cooling core designed by Silicon Labs for high-density liquid-cooled server racks. It features a standard 19-inch rack mount and integrates heat exchange, circulation, and control into one unit, providing stable and precise coolant circulation for single racks and small-scale rack groups. Its compact size and easy installation make it a key hub in liquid cooling systems, handling the coolant circulation from the server side.
The rack-mounted CDU uses plate heat exchangers to achieve physical isolation between the primary and secondary sides, and dual-pump redundancy ensures uninterrupted circulation; relying on Silicon Labs’ self-developed PLC intelligent control and PID dynamic adjustment technology, it can accurately supply cooling in real time to match load changes; it supports Modbus standard communication and expert-level fault diagnosis, easily integrates into the unified monitoring system of the data center, and gives high-density computing power a stable and reliable “blood circulation”.

01 Compact rack-mount design saves valuable space: Adopting a 19-inch standard rack-mount structure, heat exchange, circulation and control are highly integrated. The compact size allows for direct installation in liquid-cooled cabinets or cabinet groups, maximizing the saving of data center space.
02 Dual-pump redundancy, zero service downtime: Equipped with redundant pump sets (N+1), the main and backup pumps automatically switch, and the failure of a single pump does not affect the operation of the system; the water pumps support hot-swappable maintenance, and maintenance and replacement can be carried out without stopping the system, ensuring continuous computing power.
03 Plate heat exchanger, primary and secondary side isolation: The high-efficiency plate heat exchanger completely isolates the coolant on the server side from the heat dissipation side, preventing secondary side impurities from contaminating the server circuit and ensuring the cleanliness of the coolant and the long-term stability of the system.
04 PID Dynamic Adjustment for Precise Energy Saving: Silicon Labs’ self-developed PID dynamic adjustment technology monitors load changes in real time and adjusts coolant flow rate and velocity in milliseconds, minimizing water pump energy consumption while ensuring heat dissipation margin, thus helping to reduce OPEX.
05 PLC Intelligent Control, Expert-Level Diagnosis: Adopts PLC intelligent control with a built-in expert-level fault diagnosis system, which automatically identifies abnormal operating conditions of pump sets, heat exchangers, pipelines and electrical components, quickly locates faults and provides handling suggestions.
06 Real-time monitoring across the entire area, with leak warning: Real-time monitoring of key parameters such as temperature, pressure, flow rate, and differential pressure, providing a clear overview of the operating status; optional leak detection and warning functions provide immediate alerts for any abnormalities, preventing potential problems.
07 Standard Communication Protocol, Plug and Play: Supports Modbus RTU / TCP standard communication protocols, can be connected to building automation and upper-level management platforms, and can be optionally equipped with the XINKE SMART intelligent management system developed by Silicon Labs to realize remote monitoring and unattended operation.

Working principle and system positioning
The rack-mounted CDU is the “heart” of the liquid cooling system: server heat is transferred to the primary-side coolant via cold plates. The CDU’s built-in pumps drive the coolant to circulate in the server loop, and plate heat exchangers transfer heat to the secondary-side loop. The coolant is then discharged into the environment via an external dry cooling tower, closed-loop cooling tower, or integrated cooling station. A PLC controller, combined with a PID algorithm, adjusts flow and pressure in real time to ensure precise and stable cooling. Monitoring data is uploaded to a management platform via the Modbus protocol for centralized monitoring and intelligent operation and maintenance. Together with the cold-plate liquid-cooled cabinet and heat dissipation terminals, it forms a complete liquid cooling closed loop.
